Kanye West’s Social Media Accounts Restricted After Anti-Semitic Posts

Kanye West, the renowned rapper, and designer, faced restrictions on his Twitter and Instagram accounts over the weekend due to posts that drew widespread criticism for being anti-Semitic. Meta Platforms Inc, the parent company of Instagram, took action by locking West out of his Instagram account, prompting him to turn to Twitter. However, Twitter also stepped in by locking his account and removing a post in which he defended himself against accusations of anti-Semitism.

This move by Twitter is particularly noteworthy because it came after billionaire Elon Musk, a staunch advocate of free speech, welcomed West back to the platform. West’s suspension on Instagram followed a post in which he made anti-Semitic references, accusing a musician of being under the control of «the Jewish people.» Consequently, temporary restrictions were placed on West’s Instagram account, affecting his ability to post, comment, and message.

These social media suspensions occurred shortly after German sporting goods giant Adidas announced that it was reviewing its business partnership with Kanye West.
