Stuart Vevers celebrates a decade at Coach

Stuart Vevers Marks 10 Years at Coach with Unveiling of Stripped-Back Collection

In a fashion landscape where designers’ tenures are often short-lived, Stuart Vevers celebrated a significant milestone, marking a successful decade as the creative force behind Coach. The iconic American brand, boasting a staggering annual turnover of six billion dollars, has been uniquely reimagined under Vevers’ guidance, effortlessly blending indie attitude with cool authenticity.

The setting for this momentous celebration was none other than the historic New York Public Library, an equally iconic institution. Here, a powerful fashion show and a delightful dinner unfolded, showcasing Vevers’ vision for the future of Coach.

The collection unveiled at the event featured a stripped-back aesthetic, characterized by a long and lean silhouette. An array of ankle-length coats and dusters, meticulously crafted from upcycled leather biker jackets, took center stage. Vevers’ innovative approach included garments made from post-consumer wool and regenerative cotton, creatively overdyeing and pressing fabrics to introduce intriguing textures.

Vevers himself described the collection as embodying «Echoes of Nan Goldin, Mariupol, even Maysles, but abstractly and very oversized.» He emphasized Coach’s distinct positioning in the world of luxury, aiming to offer something different and unique.

The event had an unexpected moment of drama when anti-meat protestors made a statement during the show. Despite slow reactions from security and PR personnel, the protestors were eventually escorted off the main runway.

Prior to the event, a discussion with Stuart Vevers at his Upper West Side home provided insight into his creative process and inspirations. His impressive fashion journey, from directing LVMH’s Spanish label Loewe to leading Mulberry, Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton, and Calvin Klein, has shaped his unique perspective.

Stuart Vevers’ enduring charm and unassuming demeanor set him apart in an industry known for its ego. He maintains a genuine excitement for his latest collections and remains deeply committed to Coach’s ongoing evolution.
