Spanish lens manufacturer Indo acquired by German group Rodenstock

The Spanish lens manufacturer Indo, with 80 years of experience, has been acquired by the German group Rodenstock, a global reference in the design and production of ophthalmic lenses. The transaction, the amount of which has not been disclosed, is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2022.

The operation responds to a strategic issue, as Indo emphasized in a press release on Thursday, May 19: «Geographically, both companies are strong in different but complementary markets. At the level of brand architecture and product range, the integration allows relevant synergies for both parties. At the production, technological and innovation level, it significantly improves the company’s competitiveness.»

Indo has grown above the market average in recent years, thanks to levers such as industrial investment and innovation. Until its acquisition, it had Ergon Capital behind it, to whom the company has thanked for «its support and trust», in the words of Enric Florensana, CEO of the Spanish manufacturer.

«The acquisition of Indo is an important step in our strategic ambition to increase Rodenstock’s global presence and drive the transformation of our industry,» said Anders Hedegaard, CEO of the German company.

Headquartered in Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona), Indo specializes in the production of ophthalmic lenses and the distribution of medical equipment for the optical and ophthalmological sector. It employs 440 people and has two plants, one in Spain and the other in Morocco.

Rodenstock was founded in Munich in 1877, has a workforce of 4,900 and is present in 85 countries.
