Fashion designer Alber Elbaz, celebrated for his innovative and inclusive approach to fashion, was laid to rest in Israel after his untimely death at 59 due to Covid-19.

A traditional Jewish funeral in Holon, Israel, was attended by family, friends, and leaders of the Israeli fashion industry.

In his eulogy, Elbaz’s partner, Alex Koo, recalled the designer’s remarkable journey from Israel to the pinnacle of the fashion world, emphasizing how he embarked on his fashion career armed only with a suitcase filled with dreams and raw talent.

Born in Morocco, Alber Elbaz, known for his tenure as the creative director of Lanvin, brought a fresh and playful perspective to classic tailoring during his remarkable 14-year tenure at the iconic fashion house. He won the hearts of Hollywood stars such as Cate Blanchett and Sienna Miller with his elegant and timeless designs, particularly his iconic black cocktail dresses.

Lea Peretz, a fashion design lecturer, lauded Elbaz for his unique approach to fashion, highlighting that he listened to women’s needs and complexities rather than imposing his vision upon them.

With his oversized round glasses and trademark bow ties, Alber Elbaz not only left a mark with his designs but also stood out for his friendly and approachable demeanor, setting him apart in an industry known for its demanding personalities.

French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to Elbaz, acknowledging his role in making French elegance shine globally.

The passing of Alber Elbaz marked the loss of a creative genius who left an indelible mark on the fashion industry through his innovative designs and inclusive philosophy.
