Under Armour’s latest initiative involves a strategic partnership with precision testing solutions provider James Heal to address the pressing issue of microfiber pollution. This collaboration aims to revolutionize the industry’s approach to understanding and mitigating the impact of fiber shedding from both synthetic and natural fabrics.

The sportswear giant is set to share its innovative fiber-shed test method with the industry through optimized test kits developed in collaboration with James Heal. These user-friendly test kits offer a practical and accessible solution for industry players to comprehend and address their role in the microfiber problem during various stages, including production, wear, and cleaning.

Kyle Blakely, Senior Vice President of Innovation for Under Armour, stressed the significance of early intervention in mitigating shedding. The company not only makes its test method available to the public but is also actively working towards reducing shedding in its product offerings. A reduced-shed version of its largest fleece offering is in the pipeline, scheduled for launch in Fall/Winter 2024.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, Under Armour has distributed complimentary test kits to high-volume textile mills within its global supply chain.
