These allegations emerged amid an investigation by the Paris public prosecutor’s office into possible money laundering involving Arnault and Russian businessman Nikolai Sarkisov, linked to property transactions in the upscale Courchevel ski resort.
Arnault’s lawyer, Jacqueline Laffont, firmly stated that the expansion of Courchevel’s Cheval Blanc hotel had been conducted in full compliance with the law, guided by professional advisors. The investigation revolves around Sarkisov’s acquisition of properties in Courchevel through intermediary firms, with Arnault purportedly being the ultimate buyer, paying around €20 million ($21.2 million) for these assets.
These transactions have raised concerns about concealing the source of funds and the true identity of the buyer. However, Laffont underscored the incredulity of the allegations against Arnault, emphasizing his four-decade-long commitment to building one of France and Europe’s leading companies. She described the accusations as «ludicrous» and lacking any basis.
