Schiaparelli: A Spectacular Showcase at the Italian Embassy in Paris

Schiaparelli, the iconic fashion brand, recently hosted a captivating event, unveiling its latest collection at the stunning Italian embassy on rue de Varenne in the heart of Paris.

The evening began with distinguished guests posing in front of a striking backdrop, adorned in vivid pink with a golden lock, while they enjoyed the elegant courtyard of the Hotel de Boisgelin. This opulent mansion boasts an array of marble busts and rare oil paintings. Outside, fervent fans eagerly awaited the arrival of VIPs, including prominent figures such as Kylie Jenner, Jared Leto, Michelle Yeoh, Sabine Getty, and Rosalia.

In a departure from traditional Renaissance aesthetics, Daniel Roseberry, Schiaparelli’s Creative Director, kicked off the show with a trio of captivating black ensembles. These included a meticulously tailored hourglass jacket with commanding shoulders, pants featuring a dramatic, spiky collar resembling a cape, and a cropped spencer adorned with Georgian-style gold embroidery.

Following the tailored pieces, the spotlight shifted to Roseberry’s signature element – body jewelry. Each ensemble featured intricate copper eye earrings, ear-shaped buckles, metallic breastplates, abstract teardrops, and various anatomical accents, transforming buttons into unique works of art.

While much of the collection exuded the opulence of couture and red carpet glamour, Roseberry seamlessly integrated high-end ready-to-wear pieces, including chalk-stripe pants suits with lapels finished in his distinctive measuring tape design.

The collection drew inspiration from Marisa Berenson’s recollection of her grandmother Elsa’s early success – a workday sweater transformed into a whimsical representation of a prehistoric child. Elsa’s deliberate use of imperfect trompe l’oeil and surreal, offbeat humor created an immediate sensation and marked her first signature success.

Among the standout pieces was the brand-new trapunto leather Schiap bag, crafted with ribbed measuring tapes and adorned with a hammered gold brass padlock, poised to become a resounding success.

A noteworthy addition to the collection was Daniel’s ingenious golden metallic-toed high-top sneakers, expected to garner a devoted following.

Elsa Schiaparelli, born in Rome in 1890, embarked on her illustrious career in Paris at the age of 37, leaving an indelible mark on the world of fashion.

While some suggested that this embassy show symbolized Schiaparelli’s return home, Diego della Valle responded diplomatically with a smile, stating, «No, her home is in Place Vendôme; here, she is a guest.»
