Discover the latest insights on post-Christmas returns as ParcelHero unveils that over £1.4 billion worth of goods are making their way back to retailers. ‘Takeback Tuesday’ saw a slight dip in returns compared to the previous year, yet the figures underscore a substantial volume of returned items.
While ParcelHero notes a year-on-year drop of around 6% in returns on ‘Takeback Tuesday,’ the total still exceeds £1.4 billion. Last year, the post-Christmas period witnessed approximately £1.5 billion worth of unwanted gifts and goods returned in the first week. This year’s returns, spanning clothing, electrical goods, and toys, are expected to reach £1.41 billion.
David Jinks, Head of Consumer Research at ParcelHero, attributes the decline in returns to lower Christmas spending rather than a shift in consumer habits. The smaller drop in Takeback Tuesday returns may be linked to a relatively subdued Christmas period for retailers, with online and in-store sales remaining relatively flat.
