Kim Kardashian’s recent appearance at the Met Gala has ignited controversy and allegations of damage to an iconic Marilyn Monroe dress, owned by a private museum

The dress, famously worn by Monroe in 1962 while singing «Happy Birthday, Mr. President» to John F. Kennedy, was loaned to Kardashian for the event.

Scott Fortner, a dedicated Marilyn Monroe memorabilia collector, has raised claims that the dress suffered «permanent damage» during Kardashian’s Met Gala outing. He has shared before-and-after photos, captured by a friend, which highlight small tears in the fabric and missing crystals, among other issues with the gown.

This dress had been acquired by the curiosity museum Ripley’s Believe It or Not! at a record-breaking auction price of $4.8 million. Fortner’s allegations of damage have garnered significant attention and discussion on various social media platforms.

In an Instagram update, Fortner explicitly holds Ripley’s responsible for permitting the dress to be worn, suggesting that any celebrity offered this unique opportunity might have accepted. He posits that the gown would likely have incurred damage irrespective of the wearer.

Ripley’s, when questioned about the allegations, had not provided any response as of Wednesday afternoon. However, the company had previously emphasized the meticulous care taken to preserve the dress and prioritize its condition when Kardashian adorned it.

Notably, Kim Kardashian, who reportedly underwent a significant diet to fit into the legendary dress, has not publicly addressed the accusations on her social media channels.
