Harry Rosen, the trailblazing founder of the renowned Canadian luxury menswear retailer, has peacefully passed away at the age of 92. Survived by his partner, Evelyn, of 68 years, along with four children, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, Harry Rosen’s profound influence on Canadian luxury menswear persists as the company approaches its 70th anniversary.
Larry Rosen, the chairman and CEO of Harry Rosen Inc. and Harry’s eldest son, expressed, «For those of us fortunate to work alongside Harry, this news is met with deep sorrow. His infectious passion for menswear and fashion, coupled with his unparalleled ability to teach and inspire, leaves an enduring impact. Each of us is dedicated to perpetuating Harry’s visionary legacy into the future.”
Born and raised in Toronto, Harry Rosen embarked on his menswear journey at a small Bloor Street haberdashery. In 1954, armed with a $500 loan, he and his brother Lou inaugurated their menswear store on Parliament Street in Toronto’s Cabbagetown, pioneering made-to-measure clothing. His emphasis on customer service and visionary approach introduced luxury Italian designers such as Ermenegildo Zegna and Giorgio Armani to the Canadian market. He played a pivotal role in developing fashion labels like Hugo Boss and Polo Ralph Lauren.
Beyond his contributions to fashion, Harry Rosen actively engaged in charitable foundations, reflecting his commitment to family and community. In 2004, his remarkable contributions were acknowledged with induction into the Order of Canada, an honor he proudly held for nearly two decades.
Ian Rosen, president and chief operating officer of Harry Rosen Inc. and Harry’s grandson, underscored, «While the fashion landscape and shopping dynamics have evolved, the fundamental principles of Harry’s vision remain steadfast for us. Men seek a curated and relevant perspective, uncompromised service, whether in-store or online, and trusted personalized recommendations.» The indelible mark of Harry Rosen’s pioneering spirit will undoubtedly continue to shape the landscape of Canadian luxury menswear.
