In a significant move, Italian luxury brand Câllas has appointed Derek Lam as its creative director. Lam, a graduate of Parsons School of Design and renowned designer, will introduce his inaugural capsule collection for Fall 2024 at New York Fashion Week in February.
Beginning his career as an assistant to Michael Kors in the 90s, Lam’s journey took him to Hong Kong and back to New York. He founded his eponymous label in 2003, showcasing at New York Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2004 collections. Lam also held the role of creative director at Tod’s from 2005 to 2010.
After the closure of his collection business in 2019, Lam focused on his contemporary label, 10 Crosby, later acquired by Public Clothing Company in 2020. Now, with a return to the fashion scene, Lam assumes the role of creative director at Câllas, an accessible luxury brand.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Lam stated, «I’m excited to join Câllas, a brand that aligns with my vision of design with intention and purpose. With Câllas, I want to create clothing for discerning women who appreciate fashion with lasting quality and produced responsibly.»
Câllas, established in 2020 by Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann and Marco Panzeri, specializes in luxury clothing for women, emphasizing quality and modern styling. As a vertically integrated company with a focus on the direct-to-consumer model, Câllas is available through prestigious retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Elyse Walker, Ikram, and The Conservatory.
Schlottmann highlighted Câllas’ commitment to responsible luxury, stating, «Our products are made with a conscious and ethical approach, utilizing locally sourced materials and crafts. Our focus is on craftsmanship, ensuring high quality and longevity. Our motto is: what is beautiful today, remains beautiful tomorrow.
