Debut of Matter & Shape: A Unique Design Show During Paris Fashion Week

WSN Développement, the creative force behind the renowned Première Classe trade show in the heart of Paris, is set to infuse a fresh wave of design into the upcoming Paris womenswear fashion week. In an innovative move, they are launching an object design show, aptly named «Matter & Shape,» marking the growing convergence of fashion and object design. This event aims to provide a distinct platform for design professionals to connect during the bustling Paris Fashion Week.

Matthieu Pinet, who took the helm of the lingerie show SIL at WSN last year and is now driving this new project, highlights the increasing interplay between fashion and object design. More brands are venturing into lifestyle ranges, and multi-brand retailers are eager to expand their home decoration offerings, including ceramics, candles, and household linens.

Scheduled from March 1-4, 2024, Matter & Shape will occupy half of a spacious marquee and will run alongside the Première Classe show. It is expected to feature around 45 exhibitors, including prominent publishers in the sector, lifestyle brands, retailers, and emerging designers. The event primarily caters to industry professionals, given its strong connection to fashion and products suitable for multi-brand retailers. There may also be an opportunity for the general public to explore the show for half a day.

Matter & Shape’s vision extends to offering fresh perspectives for international visitors attending Paris Fashion Week and elevating the appeal of the Tuileries Garden as a venue. The organizers aim to attract exhibitors from around the world, reflecting diverse design inspirations from various continents. While Paris Fashion Week serves as the ideal testing ground, there is potential to replicate this concept in other markets or on different occasions.

It’s worth noting that Matter & Shape does not seek to compete with Maison & Objet, the long-established Parisian mega-show. It operates on different dates, introduces a unique concept during Paris Fashion Week, and features a distinct roster of exhibitors. The focus is on brands that design professionals and tastemakers closely follow.

With a growing interest among luxury and premium fashion labels in diversifying into lifestyle products beyond apparel and accessories, Matter & Shape is poised to capture the attention of the fashion industry in March. Notable names like Bottega Veneta, Sessun, and Jacquemus are among those exploring lifestyle ranges, making Matter & Shape a significant addition to the fashion calendar.
