Burberry Completes Acquisition of Pattern’s Product Development Business

Burberry, the UK-based fashion icon, has successfully concluded its acquisition of a product development business from its long-standing Italian supplier, Pattern. This strategic move represents a significant enhancement of Burberry’s technical expertise in outerwear, offering greater control over product quality, cost efficiency, delivery timelines, and sustainability.

This acquisition is a seamless extension of Burberry’s illustrious manufacturing heritage in the UK, where it remains dedicated to crafting its iconic heritage trench coats and weaving gabardine fabric. It follows the previous integration of Burberry’s leather goods hub in Florence, Italy, underscoring the brand’s unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence.

For nearly two decades, Burberry has partnered with Pattern to produce luxury ready-to-wear items, including quilts and downs, at Pattern’s product development facility in Turin, Italy.

As the acquisition finalizes later this year, approximately 70 employees from Pattern’s Turin location will join the Burberry team. Pattern will continue to operate other segments of its business outside the scope of this transaction.

Jonathan Akeroyd, Burberry’s CEO, expressed his excitement about this strategic investment, highlighting its pivotal role in unlocking the full potential of Burberry’s outerwear category. This move not only strengthens their capabilities but also reinforces their strong UK foundations, ensuring top-tier product quality, timely deliveries, and an enduring commitment to sustainability. Welcoming new colleagues marks an exciting milestone in Burberry’s journey.
