Bottega Veneta, the renowned Italian luxury label, has embarked on a visionary quest to shape the artisans of tomorrow. Launched in October, the project bears the name «Accademia Labor et Ingenium,» a heartfelt nod to the brand’s foundational principles etched into its original coat of arms: «Labor et Ingenium, Mestiere e Creatività,» translating to «Work and talent, craftsmanship and creativity.»
This forward-looking initiative comprises an array of training activities, immersive workshops, and comprehensive courses, thoughtfully distributed between the iconic Kering workshop in Montebello Vicentino, located in the enchanting province of Vicenza, and a cutting-edge facility in Povolaro Dueville. The remarkable aspect is its aim to nurture the skills and talents of 50 students annually, guided by five master craftsmen from Bottega Veneta.
Yet, this academy’s vision extends beyond the present, aiming to preserve the craftsmanship at Bottega Veneta’s core. It doesn’t just end at educating the next generation; it encompasses refresher and developmental programs for the brand’s dedicated employees. Moreover, it collaborates with regional partners to celebrate and amplify the creativity intrinsic to Veneto, and to uphold the cherished heritage of «Made in Italy.»
Bartolomeo Rongone, Bottega Veneta’s CEO, shared, «The Labor and Ingenium Academy is a strategic cornerstone for safeguarding Bottega Veneta’s unique expertise. Craftsmanship and creative excellence are inherent to our brand and our home region, Veneto. With this academy, we elevate the collective ethos that defines Bottega Veneta, building upon our rich history of skill-sharing and innovation to train the artisans of tomorrow.»
The Academy set its course on October 16 with a seven-week training program. Eight students, meticulously selected from the university network of Iuav in Venice, embarked on a transformative journey under the guidance of Bottega Veneta’s master craftsman, Ruggero Negretto. Titled «The creative craft process: a course in bag design and production,» this program encompasses a wide spectrum of learning experiences, from mastering the intricacies of prototyping and producing diverse bag shapes and finishes to delving deep into the nuances of the luxury sector. It also focuses on nurturing professional communication and interpersonal skills, offering a comprehensive journey into the heart of craftsmanship.
Ruggero Negretto, reflecting on the profound impact of this initiative, shared, «Since I was a young apprentice at Bottega Veneta, I have learned from the experience, expertise, and passion of the most experienced craftsmen. It is a great honor and responsibility to pass on this unique knowledge to a new generation and to give continuity to this important tradition typical of Bottega, encompassing community, creativity, and cultural heritage.»
Bottega Veneta’s «Accademia Labor et Ingenium» stands as a beacon of dedication to craftsmanship and creativity, a legacy proudly carried forward, ensuring that the artisans of tomorrow are as skilled and passionate as those who’ve paved the way.
