Zara’s Pre-Owned platform has expanded to France, marking the second market for this sustainable fashion initiative after its successful launch in the UK. Inditex, the parent company of Zara, has ambitious plans to introduce this innovative service to «all key markets» by 2025, with Spain and Germany next in line for the platform’s rollout this fiscal year.
Paula Ampuero, Head of Sustainable Development at Zara.com, emphasized the critical role of innovation in creating a more sustainable value chain, underlining the company’s commitment to a circular fashion future. The Pre-Owned platform, seamlessly integrated into Zara’s website and mobile app, empowers customers in France to prolong the lifespan of their clothing, reduce waste, and minimize the consumption of new raw materials.
This comprehensive platform offers a range of services, including clothing repair for Zara items, an online marketplace for buying and selling past collections, and a convenient donation service. Customers can effortlessly track their orders online and choose to have their items delivered to their preferred Zara physical store.
Inditex has set ambitious sustainability goals, with plans to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, requiring a substantial 90% reduction in emissions.
France is a significant market for Inditex, operating a total of 269 physical stores in the region, including Zara. The expansion of the Pre-Owned platform in France underscores Zara’s commitment to sustainability and circular fashion practices.
In the first quarter of the current fiscal year, Inditex reported robust financial results, with revenue surging by 13% to €7.611 billion, and net profit soaring by 54% to €1.168 billion.
