French contemporary luxury brand Zadig & Voltaire, known for its inherently androgynous style, has made a bold leap into the world of genderless or gender-fluid fashion with the launch of its first unisex capsule collection for this autumn. This collection challenges conventional gender norms and stereotypes in the world of fashion.
Founded in 1997 by Thierry Gillier, the grandson of Lacoste’s co-founder André Gillier, Zadig & Voltaire has been synonymous with edgy, rock-inspired women’s wear, featuring airy dresses and lace-trimmed tops. In 2019, the brand reintroduced its men’s line in New York, primarily featuring t-shirts and hoodies with slogan decorations.
This season, under the creative direction of Cecilia Bönström, Zadig & Voltaire unveils a groundbreaking unisex collection that seamlessly blends elements of both women’s and men’s fashion. This gender-neutral ready-to-wear line, an extension of the brand’s rich heritage, offers around 40 meticulously curated pieces, all within the signature Zadig & Voltaire color palette.
The collection boasts an oversized leather blazer, ‘Valfried,’ with a playful grunge aesthetic, priced at €745. Vintage cream-colored sweaters exude a worn, vintage feel with a dark, star-shaped intarsia design. Soft, mouse-grey cashmere sweaters provide comfort and style. Rhinestone-adorned, straight-cut washed jeans priced at €495 are perfect for fashion-forward individuals. Open-work sweaters, reminiscent of fishnet tights, and navy blue dyed shearling jackets at €1,495 round out the collection.
Photographer Larissa Hofmann captured eleven of the collection’s 40 looks in a captivating ad campaign. The campaign features British top model Kit Jones and US model Effie Steinberg, donning jet-black cardigans adorned with silvery sequins and trousers with biker-style leather patches.
Zadig & Voltaire’s groundbreaking unisex collection is available for purchase through the brand’s e-shop and at its monobrand stores, including the flagship location on rue Cambon in Paris, as well as stores in London and Copenhagen.
