Valentino takes a stride forward in sustainability with the latest iteration of its in-house tailoring school, ‘La Bottega dell’arte,’ spotlighted in the brand’s inaugural sustainability report. This distinctive couture training program is fueled by the resale of dormant fabrics, showcasing Valentino’s commitment to tradition, sustainability, and skill transfer.
Since its establishment in 2015, ‘La Bottega dell’arte’ has flourished, welcoming 35 students into its fold, many of whom seamlessly integrated into the Valentino family. In the newest phase, the academy finds a more expansive home within Valentino’s historic Rome headquarters, setting the stage for seven students embarking on a nine-month training course under the guidance of seasoned former atelier seamstresses.
This immersive curriculum extends beyond the classroom, offering students firsthand experience in Valentino’s haute couture workshops during the preparation periods for illustrious couture shows. Under the mentorship of two seasoned seamstresses, students not only acquire couture techniques but also dive deep into the distinctive world of the Valentino brand. Culminating the program, students present their couture projects to the visionary creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli.
In tandem with this, Valentino launched the ‘Valentino Sleeping Stock’ initiative in 2021, partnering with French retailer Tissu Market, led by Franck Lellouche. This groundbreaking program breathes new life into dormant fabrics from the brand’s archives, carefully curated by Pierpaolo Piccioli. These fabrics are resold to opera houses, theater and film productions, fashion schools, and emerging designers, unlocking Valentino’s textile archives to private individuals for the first time. Notably, all proceeds from these fabric sales contribute to supporting the Bottega dell’arte, reinforcing Valentino’s circular economy commitment.
