Urban Outfitters continues its European growth trajectory with the launch of its first flagship store in Madrid, Spain. This marks the fifth European store opening for the brand in 2023, following successful debuts in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Norwich, and Hannover.
Guided by the London-based team, Urban Outfitters plans to sustain its expansion momentum throughout 2024 and beyond. The brand’s strategic roadmap includes a second flagship store on Champs-Élysées, Paris, set to open its doors in March 2024. Over the next five years, the company aims for additional openings in 11 European countries, expanding its current network of 68 locations across the EU.
Situated on the bustling shopping hub, Gran Via 43, the new store occupies a historic building crafted by renowned Madrid architect D Luis Gutiérrez Soto. Originally a cinema, the structure has undergone meticulous restoration, preserving its neoclassical façade adorned with captivating decorative motifs.
Spanning over 8,000 sq ft across three floors, the Madrid store exemplifies Urban Outfitters’ commitment to revitalizing historical landmarks. Anthony Clarke, Concept Director at Urban Outfitters EU, expresses excitement about the restoration project: «Our ambition with new stores is to seek historical buildings for restoration. Madrid, being an old cinema, presented an exciting opportunity. Our team has delivered an exceptional piece of work.»
Emma Wisden, Managing Director of Urban Outfitters EU, highlights the brand’s robust growth in Europe, even amid economic challenges. Despite prevailing winds, Urban Outfitters is well-positioned for sustained growth. Wisden emphasizes the brand’s dedication to delivering an outstanding in-store experience, commending the Madrid team for their brilliant execution.
