Their goal is to increase the presence of women in tech roles and inspire the next generation’s interest in the technology industry.
In this two-year collaboration, they aim to drive sustainable change, not only within THG but also across the broader technology sector. Jo Drake, Chief Information Officer, emphasized the importance of this initiative.
As part of this partnership, THG employees will have the opportunity to participate in Tech She Can’s volunteering program, ‘Tech We Can Champions.’ They will serve as relatable role models in tech, offering online and in-person classroom visits to school-age children throughout the UK, where they will impart valuable technology and life skills.
This initiative aligns with THG’s goal of achieving 50% female representation in its Graduate & Apprenticeship schemes by 2025, a key objective within its THG x Planet Earth sustainability strategy.
Tech She Can, a charity that collaborates with over 240 organizations, has already reached 53,000 pupils in classrooms across the UK. Their focus on social mobility includes visits to over 50% of schools located in disadvantaged areas.
This partnership is particularly important in addressing the skills shortage in the tech industry. Tech Nation reported two million tech role vacancies across the UK economy in 2022, with 70% of tech employers experiencing skills shortages. Despite this, only 26% of the tech workforce is female, in contrast to 50% of the overall labor market, and this gender gap persists across organizations of all sizes.
