The Perfume Shop, the UK’s leading fragrance retailer, is set to revolutionize its order fulfillment process with the launch of a state-of-the-art £2.5 million «industry-leading warehouse automation system» at its Dunstable processing centre.
This groundbreaking system, after successful testing, promises to enhance efficiencies, enabling three times quicker order processing and a remarkable 40% reduction in packaging. Boasting an automated packaging capacity of over 1,500 orders per hour, The Perfume Shop is geared up for unparalleled customer service.
Last year, the retailer recorded outstanding performance, selling over 500,000 fragrances in the week leading up to Christmas, with December 10 marking its busiest day online, witnessing the sale of over 31,748 bottles. The launch of the automated system aligns with The Perfume Shop’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its supply chain. The advanced technology will not only accelerate order processing but also contribute to reduced carbon emissions, as fewer delivery trucks will be required on the road.
Gill Smith, Managing Director of The Perfume Shop, expressed the significance of this investment, stating, «This scale of investment demonstrates The Perfume Shop’s commitment to our customers, our communities, and our colleagues. We’re also witnessing our e-commerce business gaining momentum.»
The implementation of these innovations ensures future-proof distribution capabilities and operational efficiency. Alongside a revamped website, the automated packing machines are set to propel customer growth, aligning with the continuous rise in online traffic. The Perfume Shop anticipates e-store sales to contribute around 28% to its total sales this year, marking substantial growth from the previous year.
As The Perfume Shop enters a new era of streamlined operations and advanced technology, it is well-equipped to meet the rising demand for both online and offline products and services. The Golden Quarter has already showcased the success of these strategies, delivering around 50% of the business’s total sales.
