McCartney’s eco-friendly parka, drawing inspiration from her iconic parachute styles, showcases soft natural tones that seamlessly blend sustainable principles with a chic sporty aesthetic.
In partnership with EU collaborators, Protein Evolution transforms rigid packaging and industrial textile waste into high-quality textile-grade polyester. McCartney’s team then expertly spins the polyester into yarn, weaving it into the fabric that shapes the innovative parka.
“This coat represents a pivotal moment in advancing textile-to-textile circularity within the fashion industry,” notes Connor Lynn, Co-founder, and Chief Business Officer of Protein Evolution. The Biopure technology not only ensures utility and quality but also provides companies with a sustainable alternative, diverting fabrics from landfills or incinerators and extending their life indefinitely.
As an early investor in Protein Evolution, Stella McCartney expresses her passion for sustainability. “I hate waste, which is why I am thrilled about our collaboration with Protein Evolution,” she states. McCartney’s SOS Fund has been a key supporter, investing in the groundbreaking biological recycling technology capable of transforming plastic waste into infinitely recyclable polyester.
In late 2022, Protein Evolution and McCartney announced an R&D collaboration, aiming to repurpose unused polyester fabrics from McCartney’s past collections into high-quality virgin polyester.
