In a strategic move, Shanghai Jingqingrong Garment, a leading Chinese textile manufacturer supplying global giants Uniqlo and H&M, has chosen Barcelona for its inaugural European production plant. Nestled in Ripollet, within the Vallès Occidental region, the company is gearing up to launch its state-of-the-art facilities, with knitwear production slated to commence in the first half of 2024.
This forward-looking initiative involves a substantial investment of 3 million euros, underscoring Shanghai Jingqingrong Garment’s commitment to solidifying its footprint in the European market. Anticipated to create 30 job opportunities, the Barcelona factory is positioned as a key player in both local employment and the broader economy. The Generalitat de Cataluña, through its business competitiveness agency Acció, has played a pivotal role in supporting this industrial project, as highlighted in an official press release.
Roger Torrent i Ramió, Minister of Business and Labour, emphasized the strategic significance of Catalonia for international expansion, stating, «It’s no coincidence that foreign companies, such as Shanghai Jingqingrong Garment, choose to launch their global expansion strategy in Catalonia—an industrial powerhouse in Europe and a major gateway to the continent.» He underlined the region’s robust industrial history, citing over 1 billion euros in investments from Chinese companies over the past five years, resulting in the creation of 2000 jobs.
