Primark, the renowned international fashion retailer, is on the verge of expanding its presence in the United States with the launch of two new stores. On November 9, Primark is all set to unveil its latest store at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, New York. Just a week later, on November 16, the fashion giant will make its much-anticipated debut in Charlotte, North Carolina, at Concord Mills. Each of these retail spaces is substantial, covering a sprawling 30,000 square feet, and will feature Primark’s signature value fashion collection alongside homewares and beauty products.
Having entered the US market in the mid-2010s, Primark adopted a meticulous approach to expansion, which has proven to be a winning strategy in a market where many European retailers have faced challenges. These new store openings will mark the culmination of Primark’s expansion efforts for 2023, elevating the brand’s global store count to an impressive 436. However, within the US, the retailer will maintain 24 stores spread across eight states. Yet, Primark’s ambitions are far from modest, with plans to reach 60 stores in the US by 2026, signaling an accelerated expansion phase.
In 2023 alone, Primark has added eight stores to its US portfolio, venturing into new markets like the DMV with the Arundel Mills store and the latest addition in Charlotte, North Carolina. Looking ahead, Primark is keen on further expansion into the southern US.
Reflecting on the brand’s progress, Kevin Tulip, President of Primark in the US, stated, «Primark has been in the US since we opened in Boston in 2015. When I look back at the past year, I’m incredibly proud of the exponential growth we’ve achieved. It was never about rapid store openings; instead, our focus has been on selecting the right locations, optimizing store layouts, and curating product offerings that resonate with local communities.»
Tulip emphasized that Primark’s commitment to value pricing across categories, including women’s, men’s, kids, home, and gifts, has been pivotal in attracting American shoppers and fostering their loyalty.
