Pimkie, the renowned French women’s fashion brand, has concluded its presence in Spain, with the closure of all stores under its banner. This strategic move follows the brand’s 2021 decision to transfer its Spanish operations to the master franchisee, Young Fashion Group, after a period of direct management. The recent liquidation of the overseeing entity, Dimodes, managing around 20 stores, was officially recorded on October 26, according to the Barcelona trade register.
All Pimkie stores in Spain, totaling approximately 24 units (currently under maintenance, as indicated on the website), have ceased operations. Pimkie’s management in France revealed that the master franchisee faced «management difficulties linked to the underperformance of the Spanish market and was forced to initiate judicial liquidation.»
Once thriving in Spain with over 70 points of sale, Pimkie encountered challenges reminiscent of those in France, leading to a gradual deterioration in the brand’s situation. A social plan in 2022 at Dimodes resulted in the closure of 16 stores and the elimination of 52 positions.
This exit from the Spanish market poses a setback for Pimkie, especially considering the recent change in ownership. In February 2023, the Mulliez family sold the brand to a consortium comprising Lee Cooper France, Ibisler Tekstil, and Salih Halassi. The latter assumed the role of president, assisted by Elodie Chelle as deputy general manager following the premature departure of Sandrine Lilienfeld.
In France, Pimkie faces an uncertain future. The new management initiated a cost-cutting plan involving the closure of 64 stores and the reduction of 257 positions between 2023 and 2027 to revitalize the brand. Internal concerns have emerged, with unions indicating that the Economic and Social Committee (CSE) initiated an economic alert to obtain detailed information on Pimkie’s health.
In 2022, Pimkie, with a portfolio of 302 stores in the French market, achieved a turnover of 319 million euros. Explore Pimkie’s journey and market shifts, reflecting the dynamic landscape of the fashion industry.
