Kontoor Brands has achieved approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its ambitious environmental objectives. The company is dedicated to a substantial reduction in scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, targeting a 46.2% decrease by 2030, based on a 2019 benchmark.
In addition to this, Kontoor Brands has set its sights on a corresponding reduction of absolute scope 3 emissions. These encompass a wide range of activities, including purchased goods and services, fuel and energy-related operations, and transportation. The company aims to achieve a 46.2% reduction in scope 3 emissions within the same timeframe.
Jeff Frye, Vice President of Sustainability, Innovation, Product Development, and Procurement at Kontoor Brands, emphasized the significance of this commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative. The Science Based Targets initiative is a collaborative effort involving CDP Global, the World Resources Institute (WRI), the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the UN Global Compact (UNGC). It focuses on driving companies worldwide to achieve a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030 and attain net-zero emissions by 2050.
