Gucci, the flagship label of the Kering group, announces the strategic appointment of Massimo Vian as the Head of Industrial Operations and Supply Chain. Formerly the COO of Prada, Vian brings a wealth of experience to this vital role, crucial for luxury brands meticulously overseeing their supply chain.
Beginning in January, Italy-born Vian, 53, will report directly to Gucci’s CEO, Jean-François Palus. In this pivotal role, Vian will lead the product development and manufacturing processes for leather goods, footwear, ready-to-wear, and jewelry categories. Additionally, he will oversee the product allocation process across various sales channels, according to a press release from Gucci.
With a rich background in luxury operations, Vian served for 13 years at Italian eyewear giant Luxottica, holding key roles such as head of industrial engineering and CEO of Product and Operations. Following his departure from Luxottica in 2017, Vian served as the CEO of the Italian cashmere label Falconeri, later renamed Oniverse, before joining Prada in 2020.
Vian’s appointment follows the impending departure of Massimo Rigucci, a veteran of 23 years at Gucci, overseeing industrial operations in leather goods, footwear, and jewelry. Gucci’s ongoing transformation, marked by a renewed focus on the top end of the luxury market, is reflected in its recent leadership changes. Since October, Jean-François Palus has helmed the label, and in early 2023, Sabato De Sarno took on the role of creative director, succeeding an iconic figure.
As Gucci undergoes this comprehensive transformation, Massimo Vian’s appointment underlines the brand’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and maintaining its position as a leader in the luxury fashion landscape.
