Decathlon, the renowned French sporting goods retailer with a global presence, has welcomed a new senior executive to its leadership team. Following the recent appointment of Jimena Almendares as Head of Digital, Decathlon announced the addition of Raphaël Goumain as Global Chief Marketing Officer in September 2023. Goumain joins Decathlon after serving as the Head of Marketing at Google France since 2015.
A graduate of the prestigious HEC business school in Paris, Goumain’s journey with Google commenced 14 years ago when he assumed the role of Product Manager. Before his tenure at Google, he gained valuable experience working at BHV department store, Camif-Maltesom, Capgemini Consulting, and Mappy.
In his new role at Decathlon, Goumain has also been appointed to the board of directors. Expressing his enthusiasm for this opportunity, he shared on LinkedIn, «Sport has been one of the best educational experiences in my life, helping me to grow individually and with others. In this journey, Decathlon was, and remains today, the most reliable companion I could dream of. When the opportunity to join this extraordinary company – and more importantly, the incredible people who work there – came up, I didn’t hesitate.»
Decathlon boasts a commercial presence in 72 countries and demonstrated impressive performance in 2022, with sales amounting to €15.4 billion, marking a 12% increase over the previous year. The company’s net income remained stable at €913 million. As part of its strategic evolution, Decathlon is reducing the number of its proprietary brands to enhance the clarity and comprehensibility of its product range.
