A Toronto justice of the peace has denied bail to Canadian fashion designer Peter Nygard in connection with charges of sexual assault and forcible confinement.

These charges are related to events allegedly occurring between 1987 and 2006. Nygard is also facing charges in the United States. Despite the allegations, Nygard has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Peter Nygard, originally from Finland, had previously consented to extradition last fall. However, the final decision on extradition ultimately lies with Canada’s justice minister.
