Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard, facing extradition to the US on sex trafficking charges, has sought bail due to COVID-19 concerns. Nygard, nearly 80 years old, argued that being incarcerated during the pandemic is akin to a «death sentence.» He claimed that insufficient nourishment and sleep in jail would weaken his ability to fight COVID-19 if he contracted it. Nygard, accused of racketeering and sex trafficking involving multiple victims in the US, Canada, and the Bahamas from 1990 to 2020, has denied the allegations. His bail hearing was postponed to review the charges and defense submissions.
