In its first year since inauguration, Battersea Power Station Mall has emerged as a dynamic retail destination, surpassing all expectations. Foot traffic has exceeded forecasts, drawing over 11 million visitors, a remarkable 10% more than anticipated by its Malaysian-backed owners, the Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC). The presence of a dedicated Underground station has further enhanced its allure, recording over eight million entries and exits in the last 12 months.
This significant milestone follows an extensive restoration project that breathed new life into the Grade II listed former coal-powered power station, anchoring it as the focal point of a flourishing riverside redevelopment. Today, the mall is home to over 6,000 employees, including the prestigious six-floor headquarters of Apple.
While comprehensive performance metrics are yet to be disclosed, the mall has triumphed in attracting a diverse range of top-tier retailers, particularly in the sportswear sector. Shoppers can indulge in renowned brands such as Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Lululemon, Sweaty Betty, Castore, and The North Face. Additionally, the mall proudly hosts a 48,800 sq ft Zara store, Mango, Uniqlo, Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Mulberry, Chanel, as well as leading beauty retailers like MAC, Rituals, Space NK, The Body Shop, and the flagship beauty-only Boots store.
Simon Murphy, CEO of BPSDC, expressed his satisfaction with the mall’s performance, saying, «We were optimistic about reaching 10 million visitors, so to surpass that goal by 10% is truly gratifying. The majority of our visitors, around 80%, are from the UK, reaffirming that the mall is primarily a place for Londoners to enjoy, rather than a tourist hotspot.»
Battersea Power Station Mall’s triumphant inaugural year highlights its resilience as a thriving retail destination, firmly establishing itself as a hub for Londoners and visitors alike.
