Following a proposal submitted by garment factory owners, the Minimum Wage Board has revised the minimum wage upwards to Tk 12,500 from the previous Tk 10,400.
This crucial decision, effective from December 1, comes after extensive negotiations, during which workers advocated for a minimum monthly wage of Tk 23,000, a significant increase from the current Tk 8,000. Despite the variance in proposals, the finalized minimum wage of Tk 12,500 represents an impressive 56.25% boost over the existing amount.
This move underscores a commitment to addressing workforce concerns and ensuring equitable compensation within the garment industry. The announcement signals a positive step towards enhancing the living standards of garment workers and fostering a fairer working environment within the sector.
