In a monumental move, golf icon Tiger Woods officially concludes his nearly three-decade partnership with Nike Inc., as confirmed by Woods on Monday.
Reflecting on the extraordinary journey, Woods shared, “Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to initiate a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world.” In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, he expressed gratitude to Phil Knight, Nike’s founder, and former CEO, for his visionary leadership that brought about the enduring collaboration between Nike and Nike Golf. Woods also extended his thanks to the dedicated Nike employees and incredible athletes he had the pleasure of working with throughout this enduring partnership.
Woods had inked his most recent deal with Nike, valued at $200 million, back in 2013. As he bids farewell to this chapter, he hinted at what lies ahead, stating, “People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will certainly be another chapter. See you in LA.” The Genesis Invitational tournament, hosted by Woods, is scheduled to commence on Feb. 15 near Los Angeles.
In response to the announcement, Nike conveyed its appreciation for the profound impact of the partnership, stating in a text message, “Throughout the course of our partnership, we have witnessed, along with the rest of the world, how Tiger not only redefined the sport of golf but broke barriers for all of sport. We watched him set records, challenge conventional thinking, and inspire generations of people around the globe. We are grateful to have been a part of it. We wish him the best in the future.
