Alex Woo, a celebrated jewelry designer known for her personalized charms, has sadly passed away at the age of 47 on March 30.
The official announcement from Alex Woo Inc. conveys the somber news, stating, “We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Alex Woo, the creative genius and founder behind Alex Woo Inc. She peacefully departed earlier this week, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family and friends.”
The brand further expresses, “Alexandra was not only a devoted mother, wife, and daughter but also a trailblazing businesswoman. Her indelible mark on the jewelry industry will forever be cherished. Throughout her illustrious two-decade career, she wove countless narratives through her designs, making them an intrinsic part of her identity.”
Born into a family of skilled jewelers, Alex Woo had an early immersion in the world of jewelry. After her education at Cornell University, she pursued her passion by studying jewelry at Parsons School of Design, where she earned the prestigious grand prize at the Women’s Jewelry Association’s DIVA Awards for jewelry design in 1998.
In 2001, she embarked on her own journey by founding her eponymous brand. She quickly garnered attention for her distinctive sculptural charms, emerging as a pioneer in personalized jewelry with her iconic Little Icons Collections.
Woo’s unique designs gained widespread acclaim, with a dedicated following that included numerous celebrities such as Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Julia Roberts, and Christina Applegate. Christina Applegate even collaborated with Woo on a jewelry collection.
Beyond the world of fashion, Alex Woo’s creations left an indelible mark in popular culture. Her jewelry pieces were prominently featured in all six seasons of the hit TV show Gossip Girl. Additionally, she was responsible for crafting the iconic “C” necklace worn by Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex and the City prequel series, The Carrie Diaries.
Alex Woo leaves behind her loving husband, Edward Huang, and their son, Alexander. A heartfelt memorial service was held in her honor at Siesta Beach in Sarasota, Florida, on April 2.
