Jean-Paul Gaultier’s latest capsule collection, ‘Tattoo,’ pays homage to the iconic tattoo theme introduced in the designer’s Spring/Summer 1994 collection, ‘Les Tatouages.’ This new collection features a stunning array of tattoo-inspired designs printed on various garments, including tops, skirts, and body-hugging stretch tulle jumpsuits. Some pieces boast intricate all-over tattoo prints, while others incorporate these striking motifs in a more subtle and accentuated fashion.
One of the collection’s highlights is the revival of the sailor-style top, adorned with a fusion of stripes and traditional Japanese tattoo imagery. This design is featured across a range of items, including wrap-front jumpers, pareos, trousers, and turtleneck tops. The ‘Tattoo’ collection also presents trompe l’oeil elements, including faux-denim tops, swimsuits, sheer-effect knitwear that replicates the appearance of a naked female body, and sweatshirts bearing the iconic ‘Safe Sex Forever’ tattoo slogan, originally crafted by Jean-Paul Gaultier in 1996.
In addition to these captivating pieces, the collection offers a diverse selection of leather and denim items, suits, casual tops, bodysuits, dresses, and the renowned Gaultier corsets with distinctive pointed breast cups.
The ‘Tattoo’ collection is available for purchase starting October 6 through the Jean-Paul Gaultier e-shop and select multi-brand retailers. The campaign accompanying this collection showcases the adventures of two captivating models, with photography by the talented artist Sharna Osborne.
Florence Tétier, the creative director behind this collection, underscores the timeless appeal of Jean-Paul Gaultier’s archives. She aims to celebrate a woman who seamlessly balances a vibrant party spirit with a professional demeanor, reminiscent of a captivating cabaret dancer.
