Can you share the story of how you first became interested in design and decided to pursue it as a career?
From stitching alongside my grandmother to sketching designs for friends, fashion has always been my passion. Moving to New York City to study fashion was a dream come true. Despite challenges, I’ve remained dedicated to pushing boundaries and innovating in this dynamic industry. Every collection I create is a testament to my unwavering love for fashion and my determination to excel. For me, fashion isn’t just a career—it’s my life’s greatest passion, driving me to leave a lasting mark on the world of design.
What was your journey like in establishing your presence as a designer?
My journey in establishing my presence as a designer has been a thrilling rollercoaster ride, filled with highs and lows, challenges and triumphs. It all began with small steps: sketching designs, experimenting with fabrics, and creating garments for friends. Along the way, I collaborated with different artists, which enriched my creative journey and expanded my perspective. Through perseverance and collaboration, I’ve steadily built my brand and gained recognition in the industry. While the road hasn’t always been easy, the journey has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next.
When did you feel like you had your breakthrough moment?
My breakthrough moment came when I showcased my design at my school runway show . It was a culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and countless hours spent refining my craft. Seeing my designs on the runway, surrounded by industry professionals and fashion enthusiasts, was a surreal and incredibly validating experience
How do you perceive the current landscape of the design industry, and what trends or developments do you find most intriguing or challenging?
In today’s design industry, sustainability and digital innovation are at the forefront. Designers are increasingly focused on eco-friendly materials and methods, while also exploring virtual experiences to connect with consumers. However, challenges persist in balancing creativity with market demands and navigating complex supply chains. Despite these hurdles, there are abundant opportunities for designers to innovate and make a positive impact by integrating sustainability into their practices and leveraging digital platforms for creative expression and engagement. It’s particularly tough for new and emerging designers to establish their name in such a competitive landscape, but with determination and strategic efforts, they can carve out their niche and gain recognition.
Reflecting on your career thus far, what are some of the highlights or milestones you’re most proud of as a designer?
Could you discuss a recent project you worked on and the creative process behind it? What inspired you and how did you bring your vision to life?
This recent project drew inspiration from the stages of a flower’s life cycle. I began by researching the bloom stage of many flowers and studied to understand the symbolism behind each phase. Sketches and mood boards helped me conceptualize designs. I used sustainable materials reflecting natural textures, colors, and shapes, adding crystals and drops of resin to mimic raindrops. I started draping with different kinds of fabric to visualize the shapes and finally incorporated them into the designs you see now. The collection was unveiled at my graduation runway show, evoking the beauty and transformation of the flower’s stages on the runway. It was a project rooted in nature’s beauty, sustainability, and creative expression.
And here are a couple of additional questions: Outside of your professional life, what are some of your passions or hobbies that inspire your work?
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations or goals for your future as a designer?
Outside of my professional life, I draw inspiration from various passions and hobbies. Nature, with its vibrant colors and serene landscapes, and travel, which exposes me to diverse cultures and architectural wonders, both fuel my creativity. I also find inspiration in the arts, from visiting galleries to experiencing live performances, and I prioritize mindfulness practices like yoga and meditation to maintain mental clarity and focus.
Are there any specific projects or collaborations you’re eager to pursue?
«I’m incredibly excited about an upcoming collaboration I’m planning for my next collection. I’ll be partnering with a talented fine artist to infuse the designs with vibrant colors and unique patterns. This collaboration offers a fantastic opportunity to blend fashion and art, creating pieces that are visually stunning and conceptually rich. We’re aiming to push the boundaries of traditional fashion design by experimenting with new techniques and materials, and I believe the synergy between our creative visions will result in something truly extraordinary. Beyond the creative aspect, I’m also looking forward to the opportunity to reach new audiences and expand my brand’s visibility through this collaboration. Overall, I’m eager to see the innovative and captivating designs that emerge from this partnership, and I believe it will be a significant milestone in my career as a designer.»
