Burberry, the renowned British luxury fashion house, is expanding its philanthropic reach through a strategic partnership with the global charity organization Save the Children. This collaboration marks a significant milestone as the Burberry Foundation unveils ‘Life Chances,’ a program aimed at providing vital support to young individuals affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
The ‘Life Chances’ program is designed with a clear mission—to assist young Ukrainian refugees in their journey towards recovery. It focuses on enhancing their educational and career prospects, nurturing social and emotional well-being, and empowering them to become catalysts for positive change within their communities.
Initially slated to operate exclusively in Poland until June 2025, the program is tailored to address the needs of Ukrainian refugees aged 14-18. In a move to promote broader social well-being and cohesion, the program’s reach will extend to young people in Poland, with full services set to commence in November.
The core message underlying this initiative is the crucial role that education and social activities play during times of crisis and displacement. These elements create an environment where young people can find purpose, establish their identity, and foster a sense of belonging.
It’s important to highlight that Poland currently hosts a substantial population of Ukrainian refugees. However, statistics reveal that, as of the end of the 2022/2023 academic year, only 44% of Ukrainian children were enrolled in local schools. This situation stems from the growing demand for schooling in light of the expanding young population.
All activities within the ‘Life Chances’ program will be conducted through libraries and other community spaces scattered across Poland. This strategic approach ensures that young individuals have unfettered access to valuable information, culture, technology, and a secure environment that encourages interaction and the realization of their full potential.
Nicole Lovett, Programme Director at Burberry, underscored the pivotal role played by Save the Children in safeguarding the well-being of young people worldwide. The Burberry Foundation takes immense pride in its collaboration with Save the Children to launch a program that promises to positively impact thousands of young lives affected by the crisis. This initiative aims to aid in their recovery, foster growth, and create a multitude of opportunities for a brighter future.
