Rumors had been circulating for several months and the official confirmation of the long-awaited partnership between Jacquemus and Nike has just arrived. Designer Simon Porte Jacquemus has always dreamed of joining forces with the American manufacturer, thus joining the Nike family following in the footsteps of Virgil Abloh and many others. It is now a fact. The fruit of this collaboration will hit the market this summer and will be distributed exclusively on the French brand’s website starting June 28.
The summer collection consists of unisex accessories and several women’s ready-to-wear pieces, such as biker shorts, a pleated skirt and an open-back dress, which will be seen at Jacquemus’ upcoming physique show, scheduled for June.
«For this collaboration, I wanted to create a collection that reinterprets athletic women’s sportswear in a minimalist way. It was important that the collection was accessible to all bodies, and that it was a mix of Jacquemus style and Nike performance,» the designer explained in a statement.
«I have always been inspired by vintage ACG pieces and Nike campaigns from the 90s. With this image in mind we designed women’s sportswear with sensual details and neutral colors, as well as my own interpretation of the Humara, my favorite Nike sneaker,» continued the designer, who has always been drawn to the world of sports, and for the occasion mixed the aesthetics of indoor sports and outdoor wear by drawing on the sports giant’s archives.
«When we collaborate, it’s always a balanced union where each brand joins forces to move the other forward in a way it couldn’t have done alone. With Jacquemus, we drew inspiration from vintage ACG, Nike’s Dri-FIT fabric and sneakers like the Humara to create a link between sport and style,» commented Jarrett Reynolds, Nike’s vice president in charge of Catalyst apparel design, noting how these types of collaborations, «help develop the culture of sport and adapt it for the next generation.»
The two partners, who hope to build more anticipation around the project by playing on the anticipation and desire for the capsule, have yet to release any images of the collection. Just a few teasers with the Nike x Jacquemus logo: a tennis court seen from the sky, set on what looks like sand by the sea, where two feminine silhouettes meet.
