Asda, the retail powerhouse and proud owner of the George clothing and homewares brand, takes a bold step in its digital journey by appointing its inaugural Chief Digital Officer. This strategic move is part of Asda’s unwavering commitment to harnessing data for an enriched customer experience.
Matt Kelleher, former Chief Information Officer at Morrisons, is set to assume this pivotal role in July. As Asda strives to solidify its standing as the UK’s second-largest grocery retailer, Kelleher will spearhead data management and e-commerce initiatives. Post the imminent completion of the ongoing ‘Future’ technology transformation project, he will also lead all technology functions.
This appointment aligns with Asda’s vision for technological advancement, and Kelleher will be an integral part of the Executive leadership team, reporting directly to co-owner Mohsin Issa.
In a parallel development, Asda welcomes Atheeq Akbar, who will join as VP, Commercial Finance in June, reporting to Michael Gleeson.
Mohsin Issa shares his enthusiasm about these strategic appointments, stating, «Asda is entering an exciting phase, expanding and enhancing our business to better serve our customers. Our unwavering focus on data utilization and technology transformation remains at the forefront, and we are delighted to bring in new, top-tier talent to drive these essential initiatives.
